Jay Z-Beyonce Knowles

Jay Z & Beyonce Knowles

2004 - current

They are the royal couple of the music industry, so it’s hard to envision a time when Beyoncé and Jay-Z weren’t together.

But back in 2001, the duo first joined forces when they appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair’s star-studded music issue. Years later, Jay admitted it was during this era when he began to privately date the Destiny’s Child frontwoman.

In 2002, they released their first single ‘03 Bonnie and Clyde and starred as modern-day versions of the notorious gangsters in the song’s sexy music video.

Speculation about their relationship continued the following year when Jay rapped on Bey’s solo hit Crazy In Love. But despite their palpable chemistry, during an interview with Playboy in 2003, the music mogul denied their romance and said they were “just friends.”

In 2004, Beyoncé and Jay-Z made their red carpet debut as a couple at the MTV Video Music Awards in Miami.

A year later, while trying their best to remain private, they were spotted getting cozy at various events and vacationing on the French Riviera.

In September 2006, Beyoncé released her album B’day, which featured Jay-Z on the tracks Upgrade U and Déjà Vu.

Although it wouldn’t be revealed for years, Jay-Z proposed to Beyoncé on December 4, 2007, which also happened to be his birthday.

Exactly four months later, the A-list stars made it official and married in a small intimate ceremony at his NYC apartment on April 4, 2008.

On August 28, 2011, Beyoncé announced she was expecting the couple’s first child while performing Love on Top at the MTV VMAs. “I want you to feel the love that’s growing inside of me,” the glowing mom-to-be told the audience as she unbuttoned her jacket and rubbed her emerging baby bump.

Within weeks, rumors surfaced suggesting Beyoncé wasn’t really pregnant, had enlisted a surrogate and accused her of sporting a fake belly. During an interview with Katie Couric, the singer brandished the accusations as “ridiculous.”

On January 7, 2012, Beyoncé gave birth to daughter Blue Ivy in New York.

In April 2014, Jay-Z and Queen Bey revealed another joint venture and announced they would hit the road together as part of their co-headlining On The Run Tour.

On May 5th, 2014, the duo navigated negative press after they became engulfed in a public family squabble when elevator footage leaked which showed Beyoncé’s sister Solange Knowles attacking Jay-Z. The entire family later released a joint statement insisting they had all moved on past “the unfortunate incident.”

Despite rampant rumors that their marriage was over, Beyoncé and Jay-Z remained a united front and launched their world tour in June. With only 21 dates, On The Run proved to be a massive success, earned over $109 million and was the fifth highest-grossing tour of the year.

In October 2014, after just six years of marriage, Beyoncé and Jay-Z renewed their wedding vows.

The couple rang in 2015 as reports speculated whether Beyoncé was pregnant again after the diva shared an Instagram photo covered in sand with what looked to be a baby bump.

Neither Beyoncé nor Jay-Z has made any official comment.
